S is for SamWise Gamgee

Give me your hand. Take my hand. Don't you let go. Don't let go...Reach! -SamWise Gamgee

Samwise Gamgee is my absolute favorite character in this big world of characters.  He is what I want each one of my boys to be like.

He isn't particularly brave or valiant.  He isn't a swordsman or a handsome prince.  He isn't anything considered hero(ish)...

But what he is is the greatest thing in the world...

A true, committed and selfless, friend.

When he sees a friend in trouble he puts himself between them and whatever is threatening them. Every time.

At the end of the fourth book Sam is helping Frodo to the top of Mount Mordor to destroy the ring and Frodo becomes so exhausted that he stops and cant go any farther, after all those years of travel and fighting he gives up a mile away from the top of the mountain.  Sam knows he cant carry the ring but he is determined to see Frodo to the end because that is what he committed to.  So he picks Frodo up and Carry's HIM up the mountain.

Saw your comment on karen's Theme blog post and loved the name of your blog so I had to stop by. I love Sam too. I had thought that I wouldn't like the Rings movies, but I loved them because at their core, they had themes about good vs. evil and the importance of friendship and loyalty and so many more positive things. See, there we have THEMES again! Stop by to visit my sometime at http://writeryogini.blogspot.com. My T,U, And V posts are about an intense trial that I was just on the jury for (bad grammar but I don't know how to fix it).
