Not Unkindly

I just read this book

The only good thing I can say about it, is that it ended.

In the books defense I am not a Zombie fan, so it was my own fault for willingly buying a Zombie book.

But that was not what I didn't like about it. (I mean, not totally.)  It was the way the book was written.  I read a whole book with these kinds of descriptions.

"He put his hand on my cheek, using his thumb to brush away a tear, then he leaned in to kiss me.  When he stopped, he closed his eyes and rested his forehead against mine."

Ok, I would get into it and then it would say "when he stopped,"   WHEN HE STOPPED?  Girl, what did it taste like, feel like, sound like??? He is leaving her and he wont know the next time he will see her.  WHEN HE STOPPED?

I don't even really know what the characters looked like!!  Except that one has long wavy dark hair and another has tattoos.  That's basically it.

My biggest pet peeve is the phrase NOT UNKINDLY.  I hate this phrase.  It makes my Dyslexia have a seizure.

not un positive, which is kindly
and not negative, which is not unkindly

The first time I read it in her book "My blood Approves" I was like Hummm...  Then she put it about 17 more times in the SAME book.

"He said, not unkindly."  Not unkindly?  Why is this stressing me out so much?

I think its because she is a millionaire and I'm jealous that she can write a book that has a phrase like "Not Unkindly" in it and still be successful.

And , again, only because it had an ending!

I COULD care less. That's the one that drives me bananas. Why would you ever say I COULD care less?! YOU COULDN'T CARE LESS, Meat head!!

I feel ya, girl. (and I'm not big on zombies, either)

Haha! Sooo true! Now excuse me while I read thru my book and make sure I don't have "I could care less" in it! LOL!

"HAHA! One to avoid I guess" I said not unkindly.

Yeah. That's annoying. How come if I wrote that my editor would stomp on it and spit on it-- but it's in a published book?

Jo, my editar has stomped and spit on things much better than that! But, thats why I trust my editor, to not let something like that go thru.

It was in once in this book "Hollowland" It was in her latest series, I would say 10 times in each book, of the 5.

I read her Trylle series around Christmas and I know there was a phrase she kept repeating, but I can't think of it now. I liked those books though. I haven't read any of the others. (Not into zombies OR vampires). The thing is, I know I have pet phrases and words that I use too often. My critique group often has to save me from myself :)
