Herding Cats

Yesterday I re wrote a chapter that I realized wasn't as intense as it should of been.  I put the characters in a crazy situation and I just barely touched on the (OMG, like, we are freaking out right now) but pretty much went into the dialog of how they got there.

I re read a 4,204 word chapter and realized it smelt like a day old tuna sandwich so I re wrote it to better fit the moment and left the dialog for the next chapter.

I don't know how my editor does it.

There were words above it, there were words below it.  Im dyslexic and ADD so I felt like I was herding a bunch of feral cats down a two sided, double wide alley.

me

For example, there was a sentence that actually had the word ignore in it three times.  Yes, three times! I caught it after sending it to my friend Evil, who is my creative consultant.  (If you dont have one, get one.  She always has tons of great suggestions for me.)  I think when you see something like that, you realize in that moment maybe getting up and doing something else for a moment might have been a good idea.

But then there is Rae, my amazing, mind reading, super organized, super powerful editor.  This is her...

Rae

I don't know how she does it.  She tells me she likes playing with shinny things.  And I'm flattered that she calls my book shiny.

So that was my day yesterday.  Herding wild cats. The good news is that besides my little ignore point I was trying to get across, Evil actually very much liked the chapter and begged me for another one.  That's always a good sign.

Im happy its today and not yesterday...

Love this! It IS like herding a bunch of cats, but very cuddly, adorable ones. So it works. :)

Sounds like lots of fun. I get the same feeling trying to edit with toddlers around. Herding feral cats, indeed.
